Do your research, kids, or you’ll end up spending your day wandering around aimlessly, just as I did. Wandering around aimlessly, although it can be slow and sleepy, can also make for seeing some really interesting things.
Yesterday I went to Zurich. It was only an hour train ride from Basel, and as soon as you hop off at the Zurich HBF, you’re right at the Bahnhofstrasse, a major shopping street.
Because I didn’t do my research prior to hopping on the train to Zurich, I didn’t realize that all museums, as well as many stores, would be closed. I was lucky that everything on the Bahnhofstrasse was open, as well as a couple stores in the old town.
I ended up just wandering around and exploring, and although at some points, I felt as if I was wasting my day, I really enjoyed the slow pace and being able to soak up the city.
Oh, just a sidenote, this green juice was amazing.
I googled museums that were open on Mondays, and found one!!! So I headed up to where it was supposedly located.
It was in quite the university area.
As I walked into the museum, I turned into a room, and saw a ton of students shuffling and sitting down in random seats, and that’s when I realized that this “museum” I was going to visit was actually a hall in the University of Zurich. Soooo I high tailed it out of there. I honestly probably would have joined the class, had it been in English. Because I was really loving the vibe of the university, I decided to sit in the area, people watch, and soak in the feeling of being of Uni.
So although my day was unplanned and a little lazy, I learned that it was definitely not a day wasted. Sure, I didn’t see the most famous sights and museums, but I did get a change to see what daily life in Zurich was like, something that’s difficult to do unless you don’t do your research. Sometimes being unprepared is a good thing.
